Community Embrace – Supporting Reservist's Families
During Operation Iron Swords, a clear need arose among local municipalities across the country to provide appropriate support for the families of reservists. In response, Kehillot Foundation launched a broad and impactful initiative, activating over two dozen community groups to support these families.
On-the-Ground Activity:
In dozens of locations, Community Embrace ("Chibuk Kehillati") was carried out in full force. Communities across Israel mobilized impressively, offering calming activities, educational programming, and emotional support—directly strengthening the resilience of thousands of reservists’ family members. Activities were held at community centers, play spaces, and local hubs, all aiming to provide comfort and support during this challenging time.
This systematic effort was carried out in close cooperation with local municipalities and was rooted in the understanding that broad, organized community support creates a meaningful and holistic response.
Project Goals:
- Emotional and Mental Support– Helping reduce stress and burnout caused by prolonged service and the emotional strain on families.
- Enhancing Motivation and Belonging– By honoring the efforts of reservists and offering meaningful social frameworks.
- Fostering Community– Strengthening social resilience through shared experiences and 'opportunities for connection', among families.
- Support for Children and Spouses– Providing specific attention to the emotional needs of children and the challenges faced by spouses left to manage alone.
- Promoting Health and Quality of Life– Through physical and cultural activities, daily assistance, and restoring a sense of normalcy during times of emergency.
Examples of Activities Since the Outbreak of the War:
- Hundreds of recreational activities for thousands of families nationwide
- Holiday celebrations throughout the Jewish calendar
- Distribution of over 2,000 gift packages, Purim baskets, and pizzas before the Passover.
- Assistance with home cleaning before Passover
- Matza-baking activities and children’s programming
- Camps, trips, educational plays and hot meals
- Communal Shabbat dinners
- Creation of 'resilience groups' for reservists’ spouses
Summary:
Kehillot Foundation has taken a leading role in supporting the families of reservists during a time of national emergency and crisis. Through a wide range of initiatives, it has strengthened the personal and communal resilience of thousands of families, offering emotional and social support, and improving their quality of life during this difficult period. The project represents a model of mutual responsibility and genuine partnership between civil society and those who carry the burden of protecting our country.
We extend our deep thanks to the 'Class Actions Fund' of the 'Ministry of Justice' for their trust and their significant financial support during this last year, which laid the groundwork for establishing these dozens of centers of support for these amazing families.
We would also like to thank our special partners (Brothers and Sisters) from the USA, your support, encouragement and love, are the foundation of our partnership.
Looking ahead, we are eager to expand this work by continuing to establish play centers, organize creative activities, and provide ongoing encouragement for our incredible volunteers and community leaders.
This is a national mission—to uplift the morale and resilience of the reservists’ spouses, the lionesses, and the amazing children of these brave families.
We salute you!
